🍽️ About the School Lunch Association

The School Lunch Association (SLA) is a registered charity that has been serving communities since 1989. Its mission is to operate a non-stigmatizing, pay-what-you-can lunch program to ensure every child receives a hot, nutritious meal at school, regardless of their family’s financial situation.

We currently serve over 6,700 meals daily in 43 now 46! schools located across the Northeast Avalon, Clarenville, and Gander regions.

Meals are prepared and served by trained SLA staff onsite at each school.

📅 How to Register

To register:

Registration is a once-a-year requirement for our program. While we normally charge a one-time registration fee of $10 per student, we will be waiving the registration fee for Botwood Collegiate, Memorial Academy and Beaconsfield Junior High Families schools given that we are nearing the end of the school year.

  1. Visit www.schoollunch.ca
  2. Click Registration/Orders > Register Here
  3. Enter your contact details (email, phone number, etc.)
  4. Opt-in for text message reminders (recommended)
  5. Add your child(ren):
    • Select their school from the dropdown
    • Choose the teacher/class (if listed)
  6. Read and accept notices regarding allergies, closures, and service limits
  7. Choose a payment method

When completing your registration online, once prompted for payment, please click the “unable to pay at this time” option to complete your registration.

📆 How to Order Meals

Orders are placed online each month using your schoollunch.ca account.

  • Menus are released monthly, typically in the second week for meals served the following month.
  • School Menus are located in the Menus section of the website.

Step-by-step:

  1. Sign in to your account
  2. Select your child
  3. Use the monthly calendar to select dates
  4. Use “Select All” to order every day
  5. Click Save Selection, then Confirm Selections
  6. Choose a payment method
  7. Get confirmation and receipt via email

You may edit your order any time before the deadline. Missed deadlines may limit availability, but SLA will try to accommodate late orders if possible.

For Botwood Collegiate, Memorial Academy and Beaconsfield Junior High, our online ordering is available from May 9th through May 16th with the deadline for orders being 12pm on May 16th. During this week, parents will select meals for their children to be served  June 2nd to June 20th.
As a parent/guardian, you may be wondering why you are ordering lunch for your child/children in the middle of May for lunches to be served in the month of June? As a charity that operates a “Pay-What-You-Can” model, we utilize the funds obtained from the sale of food in advance for procurement and further, ordering in advance provides us the ability to determine how many children we need to prepare lunch for each day. By obtaining the amount of children we are to provide lunch for in advance we can also ensure that our vendors and delivery trucks have ample supply and time to deliver our food products.

💳 Payment Options

The SLA uses a Pay-What-You-Can model. The suggested price is $5 per meal, but families can contribute more or less.

All payment details are confidential.

Payment methods:

  • Visa / Mastercard
  • Visa Debit / Debit Mastercard
  • Email Money Transfer (EMT) to [email protected]
    (Include your child’s name and school in the message line)
  • Pay-What-You-Can (including $0 if needed)

You may also add an optional donation during checkout to help support other families.

🍲 What’s Included in a Meal?

Each meal includes a full tray of nutritious food, aligned with Provincial School Food Guidelines.

Meals are:

  • Cooked and served onsite by SLA staff
  • Designed to encourage healthy eating habits

Allergies & Dietary Needs:

🚨 Missed Payments or Weather Closures

  • If you miss a payment deadline, you can still pay via EMT.
  • In case of weather-related closures, meals are not refunded as food is already procured. Consider it a donation or discuss with staff about future adjustments.

📈 Donations & Fundraising

SLA must raise $500,000 annually to sustain operations. Donations are welcome!

  • Credit: Visa, Mastercard, AmEx, Discover, JCB, UnionPay
  • Debit: Interact Debit (Canada only)
  • Digital: Apple Pay, Google Pay
