Provincial School Food Guidelines

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador collaborates with school districts, health authorities, and various partners to promote healthy school environments. The Provincial School Food Guidelines were first introduced in 2006 and updated in 2009 to align with Canada’s Food Guide, providing guidance for school food providers and administrators on offering healthy food and beverage options.

In response to the 2019 revision of Canada’s Food Guide, the guidelines underwent further updates. A comprehensive assessment involving stakeholders led to the creation of new guidelines, which were piloted in the 2019-20 school year. The updated guidelines, now finalized, aim to support healthy eating in schools across the province.
